Development, Culture & Leadership (DCL) is proud to announce its partnership with WFP, the United Nation’s World Food Programme (winner of the 2020 Peace Nobel Prize award) for the distribution of food parcels to the students of 25 schools in North Lebanon during the academic year 2020-2021.

Following a competitive bidding process, DCL was selected to become WFP’s Cooperating Partner for this humanitarian project that operates under the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) auspices and is financed by the Government of Canada, Ireland, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. The initiative, inspired by Lebanon’s poverty levels which are further reinforced by the deterioration of the country’s economy and the massive impact of the recent pandemic, focuses on improving the nutritious food intake of the children, their school retention, and their overall physical, mental, and emotional growth.

Since mid-December, more than 14,000 parcels, each containing 30 kg of a variety of food items, have been distributed, impacting in total more than 70,000 people.

DCL is proud and honored by this partnership. The collaboration comes as the natural next step in our growth trajectory, building on our 12-year-long presence and the numerous projects we have already implemented, especially our food distribution initiatives in North Lebanon. From humble beginnings in Dennieh, following the vision and passion of DCL’s Founder and President, Dr Mounzer Fatfat, we have managed to expand today our scope of operations, serving a broader range of needs in a larger geographical area. Most of all, we are glad that organizations the stature of the United Nations choose more and more to place their trust in local NGOs and the regional know-how that we are offering.

The programme will last until the end of the current school year, alleviating to some extent the desolation faced by the residents of one of the poorest and most challenged regions in the Middle East.
